Property Loss

We understand the sense of loss experienced when fire, storm damage, burglary or other misfortune strikes your property. The most important thing to remember is to act quickly. Reporting the claim and protecting yourself from further loss are very important issues. Timeliness is not only important for investigative purposes but also your responsibility as a policyholder. The following pointers will help you in dealing with a property loss.

1. Protect your property from further damage.

  • Cover the property if it is exposed to the elements
  • Make temporary repairs, if reasonable and necessary, to protect the property from further damage
  • Maintain a record of all expenses incurred.
  • Separate damaged from undamaged personal property

2. Take photos of damage (if possible)

3. Prepare an inventory or damaged personal property, contact Steele Group Insurance Agency.

  • List quantity, description, and value.
  • Attach bills, receipts, estimates, and related documents.

4. Retain damaged property until a claims adjuster approves its disposal (unless a danger to safety exists)

  • The adjuster may need to inspect the property

5. Notify police if there is a theft, and document the name/contact information of the responding police officer and the police report number.

6. Expect to be contacted by the claims adjuster within two working days. Please call the Steele Group if you have not been contacted within that time frame.

  • If the damage significantly affects your continuing operations, we will request that the insurance carrier expedite your claim.
  • Please let us know immediately if your circumstances change and this loss will have a greater impact on your business than originally anticipated.

7. Be prepared to provide additional as requested by the claims adjuster.

Auto Loss

Vehicle accidents are never a pleasant experience, but there are a few things you can do to make the experience less stressful and complicated. Remembering to follow these few pointers can assist you in handling the situation.

1. If there are any injuries, contact the police and document the name/contact information of the responding police officer and the case number.

2. DO NOT ADMIT RESPONSIBILITY nor sign any statement except for the insurance company’s claim adjuster.

3. Obtain information about other party involved in the accident and anyone who may have witnessed the accident.

  • Name
  • Address
  • Drivers License # and Date of Birth
  • Phone Number
  • Insurance Carrier
  • Policy Number and effective dates
  • Year, Make and License plate number of auto
  • Vin # and color of the vehicle

4. Take photos of the accident site and vehicles, if possible.

5. Have the vehicle towed to a repair facility if it cannot be driven.

6. If the vehicle is drivable, you can obtain an estimate for repair, although it is not required.

7. The claim adjuster will deal directly with the other party. Do not deal with the other party yourself. Please refer all inquiries to the Steele Group.

8. After you report your claim, a representative will typically contact you within two working days to discuss what happens next, what your insurance policy covers and to answer any further questions.

If the damage significantly affects your continuing operations, we will request that the insurance carrier expedite your claim.

  • Please let us know immediately if your circumstances change and this loss will have a greater impact on your business than originally anticipated.
